The Fender Music Foundation Team

The foundation will become an authorized, official licensee of Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC). It will remain a separate entity, serving as a platform for the music industry, and the public alike, to come together to support music education.

The name change came about when FMIC invited Thomas to join their corporate Board of Directors. As part of the invitation, FMIC expressed support for the foundation and its migration to becoming The Fender Music Foundation.

Thomas commented, “I’m thrilled to be appointed to the FMIC board and honored with the opportunity to continue my lifelong passion for music. I’m especially grateful for the support Fender has given my foundation, continuing our efforts to bring the music industry together for this cause that has been so important to me throughout my career.”

Andrea LaBarge Mills is a freelance photographer based out of Los Angeles, CA. She has been working in the photo industry for more than 10 years with experience in a major photo agency, a small design studio, and a gallery before entering the editorial world in 2005. She has worked with the music industry both as a photographer and as Photo Editor at Filter Magazine, a position she held for three years. Other music clients have included Interscope, Polyvinyl, and Domino Records, Spin, and Death+Taxes Magazine. Prior to embarking on her career, she earned degrees in Visual Media at American University – with a semester at FAMU, Prague’s famed film academy – and in Photography at Art Center College of Design.

Dennis LaBarge is a physics teacher at Gateway High School in Kissimmee, FL. His 35 years of photography experience, and even more experience playing guitar and bass, are frequently incorporated in his science lectures and assignments. Dennis has attended several photo workshops, including the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops and the Mentor Series, and his work has been published in the Texas Department of Tourism magazine.

The Guitar Center Music Foundation has been chosen as the beneficiary for the annual “Indie Music Assault” contest and showcase presented by Black Mountain Productions and Skinnie Magazine.

The contest is now accepting entries from all unsigned independent rock bands from across the nation for the chance to play at Paramount Studios, the place of the MTV Video Music Awards, on May 9, 2009. It’s open to all different genres ranging from pop rock to heavy metal and only requires a $35 fee to enter. 

Fans will be able to vote for their favorite bands via a widget that can be placed on either the band’s Myspace or Facebook page. After a selection process, Indie Music Assault gives 10 chosen bands a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as they perform their music for celebrities and music industry professionals alike. These ten bands will all be vying for the top prize of a 2-year record deal. Even if these bands don’t make it to the podium, they will still be receiving great exposure from radio, e-blasts and Skinnie Magazine. The event will also be streamed live over the web so even their hometown fans can watch the show.

signed by guitarist Don Felder, formerly of The Eagles. He signed them for us to raise money for music education in silver Sharpie at his home in Los Angeles, CA, on July 27, 2007.
